ONS Brazil: Maximizing Renewable Energy Utilization: The Impact of PI System on Grid Efficiency

Problem: The National Electric System Operator (ONS) of Brazil needed to improve renewable energy integration and grid efficiency while reducing response times and avoiding unnecessary curtailments of wind and solar power. Solution: The AVEVA PI System, integrated with an energy management platform, provided real-time monitoring, automation, and data-driven decision-making to optimize energy dispatch. By enabling faster adjustments, ONS achieved a 98% improvement in operational communication efficiency, saved 211,000 MWh of renewable energy, and avoided $11.40 million USD in losses in 2024 by maximizing clean energy utilization. ONS Brazil is a Sustainability Impact Award 2025 Finalist.
